Popcorn Ceiling Removal in Plymouth, Minnesota

Typical cost in Plymouth

  • One room ceiling, about 150 to 250 sq ft$1,700 – $4,300+
  • Several rooms or one floor, about 600 to 1,000 sq ft$5,000 – $13,500+
  • Whole house, about 1,500 to 2,000 sq ft of ceiling$9,500 – $24,000+

A popcorn ceiling can look harmless and still hold asbestos, and MDH lists the texture among materials to check. A sample comes first. If it is positive, the room is sealed, the texture is wetted and scraped off in sections, and the bags leave the house sealed and labeled.

Since July 1, 2021, a home’s ceiling texture gets no state exemption. Houses and townhomes across Plymouth, New Hope and Wayzata are treated alike.

Ceilings we take down

Room ceilings

We hang plastic on the walls, lay it across the floor and seal vents and doorways. HEPA-filtered negative air runs from setup until clearance, and the texture is wetted before each section is scraped.

Stairwells and tall entries

Two-story entries and open stairs need scaffolding and more plastic. We cover the treads and railings before any texture comes down.

Leaving it in place

Nothing forces you to remove sound texture you plan to live with. Plan on testing before an electrician, an HVAC installer or a painter works on that ceiling.

Before the crew arrives

The less there is in the room when we arrive, the quicker the plastic goes up and the sooner the work itself can start.

Clearing the room

Your part is the movable things, from the sofa and the area rug to pictures and curtains. Light fixtures and smoke alarms are ours to take down and put back.

Using the rest of the house

The sealed room stays off limits until the final air samples clear it. Other rooms stay in use, with a marked path for bags leaving the house.

What comes next

If a painter or drywall finisher is booked after us, say so when we quote. We scrape to suit the finish they plan.
